To begin with, this is a 27” panel, which for many gamers is just perfect. With a 1ms GtG response time, it’s also very quick, and the 144Hz refresh rate makes for an incredibly smooth experience. It also comes with a resolution of 3840 x 2160, which means that even if you use this monitor on a desk, and sit very close to it, you won’t notice pixels or loss of sharpness – it really looks great.

While we’re on the topic of “looks great”, LG’s Nano IPS panels tend to deliver some of the best visual experiences out there, and the 27GN950-B is perfect in that regard. The colors are brilliant, and the viewing angles are impeccable as well. The fact that it also covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color space means that you can also use this as a monitor for creative work, not just gaming. Acer’s gaming monitors are always top-notch when you’re prepared to pay a bit more, and the XB273K is no exception. When it comes to gaming monitors for the PS5, this is one of the best premium options that checks all the boxes.

To begin with, this is a 27” IPS panel, which means you have all the beautiful colors in the world, and at a 4K resolution, you also get them as sharp as they come. It’s a great combination, especially when you consider that you can take advantage of all of that with a PS5. Did we mention it’s a Quantum Dot panel that covers 90% of the DCI-P3 color space?

To add to this, this is a high refresh rate panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. This is fast, and something you’ll definitely notice while gaming because the entire experience is excellent.

The XB273K comes with a height-adjustable stand and a shade shield that will allow you to focus on your gaming experience instead of having light bother you while you’re gaming. There is an HDMI 2.0 port as well for connectivity, so you’re good to go with a PS5. It’s really a great premium pick.

AOC’s gaming panels are always stunning, especially for users who chase after value and don’t want to compromise. The CQ27G2 is a great pick for PS5 gaming because it gets you a good curved panel, adjustable stand, and an excellent gaming experience overall.

If there is one brand that has been making a lot of noise with their gaming monitors lately, it’s LG. Their Ultragear lineup has some really nice models, like the 27GL83A-B, which is a 27” monitor that has you more than covered if you want to use it for gaming on the PS5.

On the outside, you get a sleek, understated look. This is an all-black monitor with a compact stand that lets you adjust the height, tilt, and swivel, and even rotate the monitor 90 degrees. The bezels on three of the sides are rather slim, and at the bottom, you only have LG’s logo and the G-Sync sticker on the left.

The panel itself is just what you’d expect from a good gaming monitor. It’s a 27” diagonal with a 1440p resolution, and best of all, it’s an IPS panel. LG really went all out, and it’s obvious when you start gaming on this that it’s a nice monitor. It’s made even better by the 1ms response time and the 144Hz refresh rate, which results in a smooth gaming experience. Yes, it’s not the cheapest gaming monitor for PS5 out there, but it’s certainly a strong contender for the best one.  

Console gaming is meant to be an activity where you kick back on your couch in front of a massive TV and enjoy your games. And if that’s what you want to do with the new PS5, the ROG Strix XG438Q by ASUS is the monitor you want.

This is a massive panel with a 43” diagonal and is not meant to sit on a desk. It’s meant to be looked at from further away, and for that, it’s beautiful. The resolution is 4K, so even on a large panel, everything still looks sharp and crisp from the right distance.

Now, all of this does come with a few compromises. First of all, the 120Hz refresh rate is all good, but competitive gamers might shrug at the 4ms response time. You do, however, get FreeSync 2 support, and 90% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space thanks to the VA panel. You also get great contrast and deep blacks, just how they should be.

Last but not least, ASUS has included a pair of 10W speakers that do a better job than you might initially think. Overall, this is the best monitor for PS5 if you want a big panel.  

Sceptre might not be the first brand that springs to mind when you’re looking at gaming monitors for the PS5, but the E248B might change your mind if you’re on a budget. It gets you a few great features and a price that will surprise you, in a positive way of course.

First things first, at 24”, this isn’t a large display. Instead, it’s a compact one meant to sit on your desk and get you a good gaming experience when you want to get away from the real world. The resolution is 1080p, which is still pretty sharp at this size, so no complaints there.

The panel is IPS, which means beautiful colors and great viewing angles, and you’re also looking at a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. This should satisfy even the most demanding competitive gamers, as it is a really smooth experience with zero latency.

While the stand itself doesn’t offer too much adjustment, you do get a VESA mounting system, so you can put it on a monitor arm and adjust it as much as you want. And the price is very wallet-friendly, which is another great thing about this excellent monitor.  

Samsung is on a roll with their gaming monitors lately, and the C32HG70 is no exception. This large monitor is just perfect for the new PS5 console, for a variety of reasons, so read on to see whether it should be your next purchase.

To begin with, you have a large 32” panel with a 1800R curvature. While this might seem like a tad too big for a desk, the curvature makes for a rather immersive experience, which is something you’ll love. The resolution is 2560 x 1440, which isn’t the sharpest at this size, but that’s not something that will bother too many.

Even though this is a VA panel, it actually uses Samsung’s Quantum Dot technology, so you still get excellent colors and viewing angles. And to add to this, you get a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time, too. It’s a great combination of console gaming.

What we also love is the Arena Lighting on the back, which adds a bit of backlight to the wall behind the monitor, for an interesting effect. The futuristic stand and the rather slim bezels round out an excellent monitor that won’t set you back too much.

Alienware has somewhat of a reputation in the gaming world because they constantly make excellent gaming displays, but they’re priced much higher than what many people are comfortable paying. The AW2518HF isn’t that overpriced, and even though you won’t be able to take full advantage of it, it’s still a great choice.

To begin with, the highlight of this monitor is the refresh rate – you’re looking at a 240Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time. This is really, really fast, but unfortunately, the PS5 is capped at 120Hz so you can’t take advantage of this unless you hook it up to a PC. This is also a TN panel, which means that the viewing angles won’t be perfect, and color reproduction isn’t all that good.

If you can look past this, however, you have a 25” 1080p panel with a futuristic design that looks stunning on just about any desk. The futuristic stand is really beautiful, and it offers all the adjustment functionality you could ever need from a monitor.

Last but not least, you do get AMD’s FreeSync adaptive sync, so even at 120Hz (or less), things will still look smooth and trouble-free when you’re gaming on your PS5.

If you don’t really need the sharpest picture out there, and would rather get a reasonably priced monitor that still performs great in games, the ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B could very well be the perfect choice for you. It’s wallet-friendly, and still packs all the functionality you could need, so let’s take a look at it.

We mentioned it’s not the sharpest because you have a 31.5” display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. The pixels-per-inch number is somewhat low, but if you look at it from a bit further away, that’s not something you’ll immediately notice. On the other hand, what you will notice is the 1ms response time and the 165Hz refresh rate. This is a smooth monitor, and with FreeSync Premium, one that will instantly eliminate just about any artifacts or screen tearing.

On the outside, you actually get a curved panel with a 1500R curvature and slim bezels on the sides and top. Combined, this gets you a really immersive experience. And while the adjustability on the stand is a little lackluster, there is VESA100 mounting capability, so you can put it on a monitor arm. This is a really good pick for value seekers.  

LG’s midrange options tend to compromise on a feature or two to keep the prices reasonable, and such is the case with the 27UL500-W. What is otherwise the perfect gaming monitor has one major compromise that might be a dealbreaker for some. But more on that in a minute.

To begin with, this is a 4K IPS panel that really looks stunning. The colors are beautiful, the viewing angles are pretty much perfect, and the 98% sRGB coverage makes a difference. It also comes with HDR10 compatibility, so you get that wide dynamic range that shows you colors in the highlights and shadows, too.

About that downside … LG has only made this a 60Hz panel with a 5ms response time. While some might not mind this, it’s a huge downside that people who enjoy fast-paced games will instantly notice. Things just aren’t as smooth as a high refresh rate panel, and we aren’t fans of that.

If you don’t mind that, however, the monitor is also stunning externally. The stand looks modern and is rather minimal and elegant, and even though you don’t have too much adjustability, you do have VESA mounting capabilities, so you can put it on a monitor arm.  

Even though BenQ’s best panels are designer-oriented, they have some really nice gaming models, too. And when you’re gaming on a PS5, the EX2780Q should be your first choice. It comes with a few nice features and conveniences that make it a great pick.

First things first, the panel itself. This is a 27” 1440p IPS panel that has 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. It looks great from just about any angle you look at it from. As far as gaming goes, you do get a 144Hz refresh rate, albeit with a 5ms response time. This might not be the perfect monitor for competitive gaming, but for casual games, it’s more than good.

What we have yet to see with any other monitor is the remote BenQ has included. It lets you adjust settings quickly from the comfort of your couch, and is a nifty feature. There is also a USB-C port, so you can connect any modern laptop or desktop without having to take up one of the HDMI or DisplayPort ports.

Last but not least, you get a 2.1 channel audio system. Not something you see every day, and a great implementation by BenQ.

Getting a 4K monitor doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg, but if you do want to stay within a reasonable budget, you’ll need to cut some corners. In the case of the VP28UQG, you’ll sacrifice the refresh rate to get a budget-oriented 4K panel with good colors.

On the outside, this is a rather subtle-looking 28” monitor. The bezels aren’t particularly thin, and the stand itself looks a bit outdated. There is also nothing to adjust, bar the tilt, which isn’t too good. There is VESA mounting, at least, so you can hook it up to a monitor arm.

The panel itself is a VA panel with a 4K resolution. And while it’s certainly not on IPS level, ASUS is pretty good with their VA panels, and we actually like the colors. The viewing angles also aren’t bad, which is a nice addition. The 60Hz refresh rate is something not a lot of people will be okay with, even though there is a 1ms response time.

Overall, the VP28UQG isn’t anything to write home about, but it provides a decent gaming experience for people on a budget.

While Dell’s high-end gaming monitors usually fall under the Alienware moniker, they also have some great choices under their own brand. The S2719DGF is one of them and is a reasonably priced panel that everyone will love especially competitive gamers.

It does come with a TN panel, which is somewhat to be expected at this price point, but it also comes with a 1ms response time, 155Hz refresh rate, and a resolution of 2560 x 1440. And we have to say, this is one of the best TN panels we’ve seen, because it doesn’t have as much color shift as you would expect, and the colors don’t look too washed out. It’s a nice panel overall, and it’s definitely better than you would expect.

On the outside, you get Dell’s traditionally slim bezels and a stand that you can adjust in pretty much any direction you can think of – including rotating it 90 degrees. This allows you to set it up just how you like it, and the stand itself doesn’t take up a lot of space. At the end of the day, if you don’t mind the fact that this is a TN panel, and would like to save a few bucks, by all means, go for it.

What to consider when buying a PS5 gaming monitor

With all the options we spoke about so far unless you’re really into monitors, we wouldn’t blame you if you were a bit confused as to what you should look for. Resolution, panel types, response times, refresh rates, things can easily get confusing. So, let’s take a look at all the things you should keep an eye out for when choosing a gaming monitor for PS5.

Monitor Size

The first thing you should consider is the actual physical size of the monitor you’re buying. Now, this greatly depends on what distance you’ll be looking for, so by all means consider the actual setup. For example, if the monitor is going to be a meter or two away, you should certainly get something that’s at least 32” in diagonal. Bigger is usually better in this regard.

On the other hand, if you’re setting it up on a desk, anything larger than 27” might be a bit of a problem. You’ll be too close to the monitor, which may lead to excessive eye strain, and that’s not something you want. However, don’t go smaller than 24” – that’s just too small. It’s all a matter of balance and seeing what works for your specific situation.

Panel Type

The panel type has a massive impact on the overall experience, because it dictates the image quality and just how much you’ll enjoy it, and generally, there are three options.

IPS panels, or in-plane switching panels, are the most expensive of the bunch. They usually come on premium gaming monitors and offer color reproduction the others can’t really match. You get stunning colors and things like HDR, and more often than not, they cover a large part of professional-use color spaces like sRGB or DCI-P3. But the best thing about them is the viewing angles – regardless of where you’re looking from, the colors are stunning. And while a couple of years ago, IPS panels used to have problems with refresh rates and response times, today’s modern panels don’t have those issues, and you can easily get a 144Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time. They’re expensive, yes, but very much worth it.

VA panels or vertical alignment panels have slightly worse colors, but better contrast than IPS. They have decent viewing angles, and are oftentimes faster in terms of refresh rate and response times, especially when you don’t want to have to deal with ghosting. This is usually the go-to panel for midrange monitors, and we would definitely recommend getting one for your PS5 if you don’t want to spend the big money on IPS.

TN panels, or twisted nematic panels, are what you’ll usually find on cheap, budget-oriented monitors. Even though they have downsides, they’re far from bad, especially when you want a fast panel. They’re best in terms of refresh rates and response times, which is why a 240Hz TN panel isn’t out of the question. You won’t be able to take advantage of that with a PS5, though, and because of the washed-out colors when looking at the monitor off-axis, we would suggest that you stay away from them.

Resolution

The first option you will definitely want to consider is a 4K monitor. The PS5 can actually run games in 4K at 60Hz, therefore a higher refresh rate monitor and push it to 4K 120Hz in some titles, for an even smoother experience. This removes the 60fps cap of the previous generation and makes the PS5 ideal for high refresh rate gaming.

Yes, technically the 8K gaming is supported on the PS5. However, at this point, most of the games that are released and that will be released in the near future will be 4K. The same is true for the content you can watch on the consoles. Moreover, the console itself isn’t powerful enough to get you high framerates and good performance at 8K resolution. Instead, if a high resolution is important to you, we would suggest that you go for a 4K monitor.

On the other hand, if you want to get higher framerates, opt for a 1440p panel instead. At a distance of 2 meters or more, you won’t see too much of a difference, but the difference in frames per second will be more than noticeable. In this case, it’s a matter of choosing what you can afford, but even if you could afford it, we wouldn’t suggest that you go higher than 4K, because you won’t be taking advantage of that anytime soon.

Refresh Rate

There has been a lot of talk about refresh rates in the past couple of years, and here, it is always true that higher is better. A higher refresh rate results in a smoother experience, and this is something you will definitely be able to feel when you’re gaming. The “standard” for the past years has been 60Hz, but new consoles like the PS5 will support 120Hz gaming, so this is something you should take advantage of.

Unfortunately, gaming monitors aren’t made at 120Hz very often, so go a touch higher than that, and get something that’s 144Hz or 165Hz. This is the sweet spot at the moment, and what we would recommend that you get. You get a smooth experience which makes a massive difference whether you’re gaming single or multiplayer games.

Response Time

By definition, the response time of a monitor is how long the monitor takes to shift from one color to another. And with many gaming monitors, you’ll see this advertised as “GtG”, which stands for Grey-to-Grey. For those of you who want the best possible experience and want to play competitive online games, a 1ms response time will make a difference.

If, however, you’re playing single-player games more often, and don’t really care about the fastest possible response times, even a 4ms or 5ms response time is good. And if you’re on a budget, go for a panel with an 8ms response time, that’s not too bad either. It’s a matter of buying what you can afford, but generally, lower response times are always better.

Adaptive Sync

Even though Sony’s new console has an AMD GPU, and is confirmed to work with a variable refresh rate, AMD’s FreeSync adaptive sync isn’t yet confirmed. However, to take advantage of a variable refresh rate, you’ll want a gaming monitor that has it.

A variable refresh rate monitor basically adjusts the refresh rate to whatever the console is outputting, and thus eliminates things like screen tearing or artifacts. This is especially important in situations where you aren’t sure the console will be able to deliver the full 144Hz of the monitor, and if you can find one, by all means, go for it.

PS5 HDMI 2.1 Monitors

Another important factor about the PS5 is the support for HDMI 2.1. While HDMI 2.0 is a viable option, you won’t be able to get a 4K experience at 120Hz, due to the lack of throughput. HDMI 2.1 supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and 120Hz gaming at 4K. Therefore, if you’re going to be gaming at high refresh rates, and a high resolution at the same time, what you want is a monitor with HDMI 2.1 support.

Final thoughts

When all is said and done, choosing the best monitor for PS5 is all about picking the one monitor that does all you want it to do, and fits your budget. If you’re limited with the budget, yes, you might need to compromise in terms of your PS5 monitor feature set, but if you’re not, by all means, go and get a premium gaming monitor with a high resolution and high refresh rate. It’s a beautiful experience offered by the PS5, and one you should certainly take advantage of.
