Best TVs under $700

Table of Contents

If you are looking for a great TV at or under the price of $700, there are many options on the market to choose from. However, given those numerous options, it is hard to determine which sub $700 TV is ideal for you.

The technologies of TVs are evolving and have improved rapidly over the past few years. These innovations have led to highly capable 4K smart TVs under $700 that deliver top-quality visual experiences.

Therefore, we have created this comprehensive guide containing what you should be looking such as resolution, size, refresh rate, HDR, and smart capabilities. We have also provided a detailed list of the best TVs under $700 you should consider buying.

What to consider when buying a TV under $700

As our recommendations are coming to an end now, let’s discuss the options you shouldn’t compromise on while looking for a new TV if you have a more flexible or affordable budget.

Screen Size

Determining your required screen size before buying a TV is of much significance. You can calculate your required screen size for your room or workplace by using the description provided by the manufacturers themselves. If you’re seated at 6 feet apart, then you should at least choose a 40″ inches variant. For 7 feet, 50″ inches, and if the distance is 9-10 feet, choose a 60″ inches wide tv.” Or you can simply use a formula recommended by Samsung

Viewing distance (in inches)/2 = recommended TV size.

For example, if your viewing distance is 8 feet (8 feet x 12 = 96 inches), divide the figure by 2; the result would be 48 inches. That would be the actual size you should be looking for when buying a new TV.

At least 4K resolution

Nowadays, 4K TVs are prevalent and are the ideal choice when it comes to buying a TV under $700. 4K is now the standard resolution to choose over 1080p and the good news is there are many inexpensive 4K TV variants available on the market including the ones provided in the list below.

At least 60Hz refresh rate

Refresh rate is the number of times your screen refreshes per second. The higher the refresh rate of your TV the smoother video will play and appear. Therefore, you should opt for a TV with at least choose a 60Hz refresh rate. Also, note that there are TVs that support 120Hz available in different price brackets, and if you have a stretchable budget, you should go with the 120Hz option especially if you are a console gamer.

At least a UHD TV display

Most of the TVs that come with 4K panels have UHD displays and ratios. The terms 4K and UHD are interchangeable nowadays since 4K stands for four times HD; the same is true for UHD.

HDR-compatible

It is another feature that shouldn’t be compromised on while looking for a new TV. HDR is like a cherry on top – it significantly increases image quality and balances contrast and colors using contents saved in HDR formats. At this point, most TVs have Higher Dynamic Range technology, and it’s getting better day after day.

Smart TV capabilities

Almost 70-80% of the TV models available in the market have that ‘smart’ feature. The word ‘smart’ refers to a device that uses the internet for improved functionality, and when the internet is involved in any technology, the possibilities are endless. However, some smart TVs are actually compatible with smart assistants such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, etc. which add a wide range of smart functionality to TVs.

You can do a lot with a Smart TV, and a few of its features include:

  1. Voice Control over the TV and other connected smart devices.
  2. Streaming movies, shows, sports, etc.
  3. Online gaming.
  4. Web browsing.
  5. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc., are within your reach through your TV.
  6. Subscribing to satellite service.
  7. Smartphone connectivity and controls.
  8. Access to social networking.
  9. Motion control through gestures and voice commands.

At least 4 HDMI ports

The multiple HDMI ports are hugely advantageous when you’re buying a TV for gaming and multimedia usage. The HDMI stands for High-Definition Media Input and allows you to transmit high-definition video and audio inputs to the connected devices. It is advisable to choose a TV that has HDMI 2.0 feature. The best practice is to choose HDMI 2.1 functionality because it supports 4K at 120fps and 8K at 60fps, which is not possible with HDMI 2.0 (since it supports 4K at 60fps and 8K at 30fps).

Best TVs Under $700

We’ve created a list of top TVs models that aren’t only affordable but come with appreciable features. The list includes the top 4K TVs for under $700.

  • Quantum HDR10+ with QLED Panel

Drawbacks

  • Dim 4K panel
  • Built-in speakers are not reliable

Samsung QLED Q60A is a decent and a ‘good’ overall television series released in 2021. The focus and selling point Samsung made about the product is its panel and a QLED screen.

You can adjust some minor details in the TV’s settings before hitting the maximum resolution and power; carried by this beast. Make sure you follow manuals correctly, and if something goes wrong (with the settings), you can always Factory Reset it and start doing everything again.

Samsung has improved features and enhanced overall performance than the product’s predecessors. The contrast ratio isn’t as good as Q60T. But, it won’t bother a typical user, a gamer, etc.

The remote comes with solar panels, so you don’t have to worry about changing batteries. The speakers are good but not great. Our recommendation is to consider external speakers or sound systems. With brilliant colors and brightness control, you can enjoy your favorite TV shows at maximum settings.

2. Sony X80J 50 Inch TV: 4K Ultra HD LED Smart Google TV

  • Built-in Smart Google TV and compatible with Alexa
  • HDR with Dolby Vision
  • 4K X-Reality Pro upscales video’s and picture’s depth during TV shows and movies

Drawbacks

  • Dim 4K panel (Lights aren’t that bright)
  • Low contrast-ratio
  • Built-in speakers are not reliable

Sony has a history of launching its products at such an ‘extraordinary’ price. However, this time Sony has been able to introduce a great TV within affordable price brackets.

The unique selling proposition of this product is none other than its bright panels. The screen is known for its wide viewing angles and better image processing quality. The screen clarity, smoothness, and power to control upcoming glares are unmatchable. Sony uses extra, powerful hardware for unique purposes to overcome obstacles related to the display.

With all the ‘special’ hardware and processing, the screen is not suitable for gamers. If you’re a casual console gamer, use to relax after some work, the screen shouldn’t disappoint you. However, if you lean towards the competitive side of gaming, choosing this display within this price range isn’t a good option.

Aside from gaming and screen features, the Google TV and Alexa are perfectly optimized and made things a lot easier, thus requiring a minimal learning curve for the person using them for the first time.

3. TCL 50-inch Class 4-Series 4K UHD Smart Roku LED TV

  • Built-in Smart Google TV and compatible with Alexa and Siri
  • Roku provides additional special features, such as watching your favorite movies and tv shows from 500,000 collections
  • Easy to use interface due to Roku

Drawbacks

  • HDR lacks some quality
  • Low contrast-ratio
  • HDMI 2.1 not supported

TCL has proven to be one of the solid competitors to big TVs manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, etc. Their products are inexpensive, and they didn’t hold back when it comes to providing additional features.

In an affordable price range, you can change your traditional TV and upgrade yourself to 4K. The product performance is decent when it comes to watching sports, gaming, movies, etc. This time manufacturer works on improving its HDR, dynamic color range, and local dimming.

With the integration of Roku – a streaming service, the product becomes easy to use, and you can have access to a wide range of streaming services and put your hands on a collection of 500,000 movies/ tv shows. The build quality of the remote is good, the buttons are solid, and you can stream platforms such as Hulu, Netflix, Disney, and Sling in just one click.

  • Remotion 120 FPS (Native 60Hz) provides an ultra-clean display with zero lags
  • Easy to use interface due to LG Thinq AI and Magic Remote embedded with voice commands

Drawbacks

  • HDR lacks some quality
  • No local dimming
  • Low contrast-ratio
  • HDMI 2.1 not supported

This LG 55 inches ULED provides decent image quality that works fine in almost all aspects. In some areas, like watching HDR movies, the product doesn’t perform well as its competitors due to its ‘low contrast ratio’ and ‘no local dimming.’ And, also it doesn’t support Wide Color Gamut (WCG).

You can use the TV as a gaming monitor, and the results are absolutely mesmerizing. Due to LG’s Remotion technology and ultra-wide display, your gaming experience will be immersive and alluring. ULED isn’t quite as fascinating as OLED, but the former’s shortcomings won’t bother you.

Besides gaming and movies, this product is decent for other entertainment purposes such as sports and news. Despite this, some bugs still need to be fixed, although ‘most of them do so after updates.

5. SAMSUNG 55-Inch Class Crystal UHD AU8000 Series

Specifications

Screen Size: 55 inches | Resolution: 4K – Ultra HD | Panel Type: LED (Ultra LED) | Refresh Rate: 60Hz | HDMI Ports: 3 HDMI 2.0 | HDR: HDR supported | Smart Capabilities: Yes | Size: ‎8.9 x 48.5 x 29.5 inches | Weight: ‎16.2 pounds

  • Powerful Crystal Processor 4K provides efficient processing
  • Cinema/ AirSlim design
  • Built-in multiple voice assistance such as Alexa, etc.
  • Dynamic color range and Crystal colors
  • Crisp imaging details due to 4K UHD upscaling

Drawbacks

  • HDR doesn’t get very bright
  • No local dimming
  • HDMI 2.1 not supported
  • Slow response time (not the optimum choice for gaming)

It’s our 2nd Samsung TV recommendation that you can examine while looking for a new television. The product is well-built and has a clean and minimalistic design that provides a 4K UHD display with LED panels. TV’s performance is overall good and decent. But due to some missing features such as local dimming, HDMI 2.1, and a wide color gamut, the experience isn’t as good as our first recommendation, but other than that, it’s a great TV.

The video quality is crisp and has a high contrast ratio compared to its competitors. You can use it as a gaming monitor, and it works fine with it because the system has no input lags whatsoever. Other than gaming, watching TV shows, movies, and sports gives you an overall decent experience. Due to the slow response time and the inability of HDR to get very bright, sports and action scenes from movies may appear blurry and low-lit.

There have been some issues with the TV’s connection to screen share and Apple Airplay on the server-side. You can contact customer support to resolve this issue.

6. VIZIO 58-Inch V-Series 4K UHD LED HDR Smart TV

Specifications

Screen Size: 55 inches | Resolution: 4K – Ultra HD | Panel Type: LED | Refresh Rate: 60Hz | HDMI Ports: 3 HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 | HDR: VIZIO IQ Active 4K HDR Processor, HDR10+, Dolby Vision | Smart Capabilities: Yes | Size: ‎‎49.06 x 10.24 x 30.87 inches | Weight: ‎30.8 pounds

Benefits

  • Vizio IQ Active 4K HDR Processor provides exceptional image, video processing, and 4K upscaling
  • Cinema/ Slim design
  • SmartCast gives you instant access to your favorite TV shows and movies
  • Using Vizio Voice commands, you can control the behavior of your TV without using remote
  • Brilliant personalization’s and customizations features

Drawbacks

  • HDR doesn’t get very bright
  • No local dimming
  • HDMI 2.1 not supported
  • Poor viewing angles

Vizio V-series Smart TV lineup offers exceptional value-to-money features that are rare in other manufacturers. Although the brand name (Vizio) is new, they need to build a solid customer base by winning people’s trust to compete in the market. And the start from them is good.

The image quality is decent, but the display doesn’t have better viewing angles. Vizio tends more towards customizations than providing efficient and optimized features. Although the whole list of features looks beautiful on paper but most of them come with average performance. HDMI is present, but not 2.1, HDR-enabled, but it is not as bright as it should be. Similarly, the streaming services, which is the company’s unique selling proposition –it doesn’t impress much. TCL TV (which uses Roku for streaming purposes) provides a much more efficient and optimized user-friendly platform.

Optimizing such things/ features takes much time, so it should be the company’s top priority to polish those existing features first, rather than jumping from model to model. Other than that, TV has some good talking points ‘too,’ such as low input lag, Dolby Vision, and an overall decent panel.

7. Toshiba 65-inch 65C350KU C350 Series LED 4K UHD

Specifications

Screen Size: 65 inches | Resolution: 4K – Ultra HD | Panel Type: LCD | Refresh Rate: 60Hz | HDMI Ports: 4 HDCP 2.2 with HDMI 2.0 | HDR: REGZA Engine 4K HDR Processor, HDR10, Dolby Vision | Smart Capabilities: Yes | Size: ‎‎‎57.2 x 2.9 x 32.8 inches | Weight: ‎57.1 pounds

Benefits

  • REGZA Engine 4K HDR Processor provides exceptional image and video processing
  • Minimalistic beautiful design
  • Fire TV gives you instant access to tens of thousands of streaming channels and content
  • Press and ask feature introduced in TV’s remote through the integration of Alexa
  • Wide viewing angles and decent response time

Drawbacks

  • HDR doesn’t get very bright
  • No local dimming
  • HDMI 2.1 not supported
  • Low contrast ratio
  • No WCG (Wide Color Gamut)

Toshiba, a reliable old’ name, released their 2021 TV series that provides decent overall performance. However, the numbers are not up to the mark and lack some necessary features. The HDR movies experience deteriorates because of the absence of local dimming, bad HDR performance, and low contrast ratio.

You can make good use of this TV as your PC monitor because of the wide viewing angles and low input lag. But it also has one drawback, which is it can’t display Chroma 4:4:4 on any resolution.

The streaming service is good, and with the integration of reliable speakers, the entertainment experience is immersive and enticing. But the panel used by Toshiba in this model is LCD and has a mediocre contrast ratio which is obvious.
